How can I verify a swap deposit address on a phone browser before sending

This sounds obvious. People skip it. Mobile wallet swaps fail more often because small screens, auto-fill errors, and network mismatches compound into a single wrong deposit. Verifying the address is the last gate before that happens.

The two sources you are comparing

Your swap site shows a deposit address on its order page. That address is generated for your specific swap. It is what you see in the browser.

Your wallet app shows the address it will send to. That address comes from the QR code you scanned or the text you pasted. The wallet does not talk to the swap site directly. It only knows what you gave it.

If those two addresses differ, you lose the money. No reversal. No refund.

What to check on a phone screen

Phone browsers truncate long strings. A Bitcoin address might show as "1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7Divf..." with the rest hidden. You cannot verify a truncated address.

Scroll horizontally. Most phone browsers let you swipe sideways inside a text field. Drag the address left and right to see every character.

Tap the address field. On many swap sites, tapping the deposit address selects the full text. You can then see the whole string highlighted. Do not copy it yet. Just read.

Check the first six and last six characters. Scammers know most people check the beginning and end. They generate addresses that match the first and last characters of a real address. The middle is different. Verify the middle too.

Read aloud to yourself. Your brain skips familiar patterns. Saying "A, one, A, zee, P" forces you to look at each character. It feels stupid. It works.

The clipboard problem on phones

When you copy an address from a browser on a phone, two things can go wrong.

First, your phone's clipboard is shared between apps. Any app running in the background can read it. Malware on phones is rarer than on desktops, but it exists. Clipboard hijackers replace a copied address with a different one the moment you paste.

Second, the browser itself might copy extra characters. Some mobile browsers add a space at the end of a selected string. Some add a line break. If you paste a Bitcoin address with a trailing space, your wallet might reject it as invalid, or worse, send to an address that includes the space in its checksum. Most modern wallets strip whitespace. Not all do.

Do not copy from the browser. Instead, use the QR code the swap site provides. Scan it directly with your wallet app. This bypasses the clipboard entirely. The wallet reads the address from the QR data, not from your phone's memory.

If your wallet app cannot scan QR codes, or you are on a wallet that only accepts pasted text, copy the address, then paste it into a notes app first. Look at the pasted string. Delete any extra spaces or line breaks. Then copy from the notes app and paste into your wallet.

The network trap

The deposit address itself might be correct. The network you send on might be wrong.

Your swap site shows the deposit address and the network it expects. Your wallet shows the address you pasted and the network it will use. These must match.

On a phone browser, the network label is often small. It might say "ERC20" or "BEP20" in grey text under the address. Tap it. Make sure you are looking at the network, not assuming it.

If your wallet is set to Binance Smart Chain and the swap site expects Ethereum, your transaction will go to an address that exists on both networks. The swap site might never see it. The coins sit unreachable.

When to re-verify

You verify once when the address appears. You verify again right before you confirm the transaction.

Do not verify, then switch apps to check your email, then come back and send. Phone operating systems kill background apps to save battery. When you return to the swap site, the page might reload. The deposit address could change if the swap expired or the site refreshed.

Verify immediately before you press send. Not five minutes earlier.
